The Case Nantucket Sleigh Ride is the second knife in the Case series of whaling scenes. (The first knife was the Moby Dick which depicted the scene of a sailor about to harpoon a whale.) This knife features the scene of a dorry being towed across the open sea by a harpooned whale. During the 1830's and 1840's this frequently observed sight off the New England seacoast was soon termed 'The Nantucket Sleigh Ride" since Nantucket, RI was known as one of the largest whaling centers of the world at that time.
